STATEMENT

My intention is to provide a contemporary perspective on the human spirit of the individual through the use of expression. In the studio my work in charcoal captures a photorealistic stage for the audience to interact with the personality of each portrait.  This passion for expressing an identity also extends to my public work focusing on imagery from Southwest Virginia and Appalachian culture.  Overall, my work does not represent an idealistic beauty, but rather, it represents the true spirit of the individual and the depth of character that they each possess.
